All the laughs, thrills and chills – along with live Foley sound effects, hilarious commercials and fabulous music… that is Twilight Radio Theatre!

This time TRT brings you two iconic radio shows. First, a gripping “Suspense” play that originally starred Carey Grant called “On A Country Road” will thrill you, as a mad killer is on the loose! Then an episode of “My Favourite Husband” called “The Quiz Show” (originally starring Lucille Ball) in which the audience gets to star in the show!

The TRT cast is thrilled that the Gabriola Arts Council has invited us back to perform in their summer festival: Cultivate Performing and Arts Festival. Twilight Radio Theatre will take the stage at the Surf Lodge for two shows, a matinee at 2pm and an evening show at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased online HERE.

April 1st, 2023 – Twilight Radio Theatre at the Isle of the Arts Festival – MATINEE ADDED!

After a quick sell out of our first scheduled show at The Isle of the Arts Festival a Saturday matinee has been added. 12 noon, Saturday April 1st, once again at the Surf Lodge on Gabriola. NO FOOLIN’.

Okay…so the gorgeous Gabriola spring sunshine will be streaming through the windows and the “twilight” will have to exist only in our imaginations, but Gabriolans are VERY imaginitive folks, so I believe we are all up to the challenge. Remember YOU are always the most important part of the show!

Just visit the Isle of the Arts Website to register for your tickets to the TRT matinee; and while you are there, have a gander at all of the fantastic artistic workshops the Gabriola Arts Council is offering. Spring has sprung and it is time for The Isle of the Arts to grow its creativity!

Thanks for watching! You are the most important part of the show!

May 13th, 14th & 15th & 16th 2020 – Special Isolation Presentation

TRTGenPoster2Well, well, well, this self-isolation has been pretty challenging for actors and musicians, who normally provide live shows! Fortunately “The Show Must Go On” has been built right in to our DNA, so Twilight Radio has found a way to do it…sort of.

Strictly speaking our show will not be “live”, but you will be able to access our “recorded live” show right here on our Online Shows page, all day, on the dates May 13, 14 & 15. Please feel free to share the link with family and friends, but know that you will only be able to access the video on these 3 dates.

Needless to say the cast cannot all be together to create the show; so instead we will be bringing you different segments recorded at 3 different houses, all edited into one cohesive video.

David Botten, our man of many voices, will portray all of the parts in a charming Kurt Vonnegut Jr. story, bringing to life a tale called Who Am I This Time. Kathy McIntyre & Chris Jans will perform Murder Castle from Lights Out and a short and silly episode from The Bickersons, complete with all of the live sound-effects, you have come to expect. And no TRT show would be quite complete without those crazy vintage commercials and a little music, music, music! Who better, than our own Musical Director, Adam Kerby, to provide a little levity and musicality as The Lone Twilight Tone.

You will have an opportunity to make a donation in lieu of your ticket to paypal.me/TRTGABRIOLA or by sending an email transfer to: twilightradiotheatre@gmail.com

And even though you can’t be with us in person, YOU, as always, are the most important part of the show!

Stay happy and healthy and enjoy the show!

Twilight Radio Theatre’s Spring Show at The Surf Lodge on Gabriola

TRTGenPoster2Arsenic and Old Lace, the Twilight Radio Theatre Season Finalé.

The Ides of March give way to April showers, and so Spring has sprung! Of course, this means that Twilight Radio Theatre will be performing their final show of the season, and they’ve pulled out all the stops for the big finalé! Get ready for that perfect combination: murder and comedy, all rolled into one, with TRT’s adaptation of Joseph Kesselring’s “Arsenic and Old Lace”. This well-traveled farce portrays the Brewster sisters, a couple of homicidal spinsters that have taken it upon themselves to provide “end of life” services to lonely old men by offering elderberry wine laced with a wee bit of arsenic. The rest of the nephews and cousins are not immune to the madness, as “it practically gallops” through the whole family. Teddy believes that he is Theodore Roosevelt, Johnathan is a psychopathic murderer, and Mortimer is, perhaps most insanely of all, a drama critic. It’s a dark comedy that will help bring on the light of Spring.

The usual cast of characters: Adam Kerby, David Botten, Chris Jans and Kathy McIntyre will once again be joined by the multi-talented Jocelyn Hallett to make this a tour-de-force that you won’t want to miss! If you have yet to witness a TRT performance, you’ll be taken back to a time before cell phones, computers, and Netflix. Old-time radio dramas performed live on-stage allow for imagination to propel the audience into a world of mystery, murder, and of course, laughs! So get your tickets early for the April 10th or 11th shows at the Surf “Sound Stage” – Twilight Radio Theatre productions often sell out quickly – available at North Road Sports or the Surf Lodge and Pub. $20

Twilight Radio Theatre’s Valentine’s Show at The Heriot Bay Inn on Quadra Island

twilightradiotheatrehbifeb2019Gabriola Island’s own Twilight Radio Theatre faithfully recreates the live radio soundstage of the 1950’s! Full of great voice characters, vintage commercials, live sound effects and swinging songs from a by-gone era.

We get the show on the road with one of the goofiest slapstick comedies on radio, Archie’s Tavern. Archie is a metaphor-mixing bartender, with a cheerful disregard for grammar, who is well known for stumbling his way through various romantic missteps. In this episode Archie has received an unsigned Valentine and suspects it was sent by celebrity guest star Shelley Winters. Let the hilarity ensue!

The comedy ball keeps rolling as TRT presents A Day In the Life of Dennis Day. A naïve and innocent singing soda jerk finds himself in a pickle when he realizes he cannot elope with his gal because he is already dead! This wisecracking kid from the Jack Benny show is hauntingly hysterical.

And before we blow the big kiss good-bye you are in for a special treat. The debut of Twilight Radio Theatre’s first stolen – ahem- “original” production. You will delight as your favourite stars from the golden age of radio and motion pictures search for love on our wacky 50’s version of the classic Game-Show: The Dating Game!

Join us at Heron’s in the Heriot Bay Inn, Saturday, February 16th. Be sure to bring your imagination as Twilight Radio Theatre spins its radio magic right before your eyes! Who knew that radio could be so much fun to watch!

This time around, T.R.T. colleagues Kathy McIntyre, David Botten, Adam Kerby and Chris Jans will be joined on stage by the remarkably talented Jocelyn Hallett (of Kerplunks and Mad For Joy fame), making the season bright with delicious harmony!

Wow, what a summer we’ve had! Here we are now, “Falling” into our autumn routines and YES, the Heriot Bay Inn has some super fun events planned to spice up the season.

Now…imagine that you are in a live radio sound stage of yesteryear, not only listening as the actors perform multiple voices but also bearing witness as the cast, dressed in period costume, simultaneously slam doors, crumple tissue and create footsteps, setting a grand stage for your imagination. This, Ladies and Gentlemen, is Twilight Radio Theatre!

What an evening this will surely be! Saturday November 10 is when this is happening… mark your calendar and call 250.285.3322 to reserve your seats.

TRTGenPoster2Twilight Radio Theatre Returns for Their 4th Season at The Surf

That’s right, folks! The faithful fans of Twilight Radio Theatre (especially those TRT Fan Club members) have been waiting patiently all summer for TRT’s 4th season and now as the days get shorter and there’s a chill in the air, we are pleased to announce: “IT’S TIME!”

This year’s Hair-Raising Halloween Show promises to be one of the spookiest and kookiest ever! We begin with a terrifying episode of “Nightfall” entitled “The Monkey’s Paw”. On April 4th and 5th, at The Surf Lodge, Twilight Radio Theatre will breathe life into one of the creepiest episodes of the series, “It Happened”; an unbelievable tale of a spoiled brat who is kidnapped and finds herself in the long-forgotten sewer tunnels of Paris.  What happens next will make you shudder!

But fret not; there will be no nightmares for you, as T.R.T. always likes to go out with a giggle. The second act features a side-splitting episode of Duffy’s Tavern that has Archie embracing a new medium: Television, by writing a TV script for Mickey Rooney. Twilight Radio Theatre’s Spring Show

smTRTSpringPostCalling all Detectives! There will be a murder!

Twilight Radio Theatre presents its tribute to the hard-boiled detectives of Old Time Radio. Of all the genres of radio drama nothing is quite so memorable as the cracking-wise of the ground-breaking sleuths of the wireless. The slang of those gritty gumshoes is legendary; spitting out more metaphors and similes than a fledgling poet at a Shakespeare convention.

April 19th and 20th T.R.T. will perform 3 back-to-back mysteries. Candy Matson and Pat Novak will whet your appetite for intrigue like a dark alley begs for a crime; but Murder Will Out will draw the audience in like a barker at a carnival side-show. Each night, 3 members of our studio audience will be invited to try to unravel the clues as they watch the show; ultimately matching wits with their fellow contestants to compete for prizes!

And just when you thought things couldn’t get any more exciting…Twilight Radio Theatre is thrilled to announce the debut of our newest cast member, the incomparable Adam Kerby. Although Adam is new to Gabriola; by now, most islanders know him as one half of Mad For Joy. What you didn’t know is that he is a graduate of both the Vancouver Film School and the VCC School of music. Adam is not only an exceptional voice over artist, but a gifted singer, multi-instrumentalist and music teacher as well! So there! TRT is over-the-moon to have him.

With all of this fun afoot, the Surf Lodge is bound to be packed like Robert’s Place during a power-outage; so we urge you to race to get your tickets like you are trying to catch a Monday-morning-ferry on a summer long weekend.

Twilight Radio Theatre at the Charlie White Theatre

TRTGenPoster2Twilight Radio Theatre Presents
Live 1940’s Radio Show Classics from “Suspense!” “Lights Out” & “My Favorite Husband” at the Charlie White Theatre in Sidney, BC.

Vancouver Island’s own Twilight Radio Theatre faithfully recreates the live radio soundstage of the 1940s. Full of great voice characters, vintage commercials, live sound effects and swinging songs from a by-gone era.  This show presents: a thrilling drama from the series “Suspense”; a snippet of horror from “Lights Out” and a madcap comedy from the series “My Favorite Husband”.

The Thing in the Window is possibly one of the most disturbing dramas Suspense ever aired. It is the tale of a man convinced that he sees a dead body in an apartment across the street.  Try as he might, he can’t get anyone to believe him. Obsessed with finding the phantom body, he hounds and terrifies his neighbours; but still no-one else can see it. Is it an illusion…a premonition…or a diabolic plot to kill?

From Lights out T.R.T. brings you The Dark. Perhaps the most horrifying of the Arch Obeler plays; two men come upon an hysterical woman and witness a terrifying, creeping mist that has the power to turn a person inside-out!

My Favorite Husband is the show that started it all…the radio sit-com that gave birth to the TV mega-hit “I Love Lucy” and introduced Lucille Ball into countless living rooms week after week. In The Quiz Show Liz Cooper wins $500-…but only if she can cash the cheque within 25 minutes, after the banks have already closed. Well…let the hilarious hi-jinks ensue! This play is a wonderful romp; and because it is a play within a play “the audience” gets to star in the show!

Be sure to bring your imagination as Twilight Radio Theatre spins its golden radio magic right before your eyes! Who knew that radio could be so much fun to watch!

TRT’s Halloween Show

trtposter-copy-half-size

Twilight Radio Theatre welcomes Gabriolans to its premiere season of Live Radio Dramas! Oh sure…live radio dramas are nothing new to Gabriolans. For over 10 years the cast of Radio After Dark has been transporting audiences back in time to a radio sound stage of yesteryear. Is this the same? Well…yes and no.

Sadly, Radio After Dark had to wave goodbye to two of its cast members as they moved to Nanaimo and on to original projects. The cast that remained, Tina Jones, Chris Jans and Kathy McIntyre, asked their multi-talented pal, David Botten, to join them and happily, the new cast of Twilight Radio Theatre was born.

T.R.T. is very excited about unveiling the creative ideas of this new incarnation. But fret not…die-hard R.A.D. fans  will still get their fill of live Foley sound effects, period costumes and the occasional hilarious blooper!

Considering it has been a place where Gabriolans and visitors alike have gathered for a good time – since the Golden Age of Radio itself – the beloved and historic Surf Lodge is the perfect place to recreate the ambiance and suspense that once had the world riveted to their radios.

Twilight Radio Theatre dares you to join us at 7:30pm, Wednesday, October 28th for an extraordinary evening of tricks and treats. Advance tickets are $18- and can be purchased at The Hive Emporium and the Surf Dining Room. Tickets at the door will be $20-. To enjoy an exceptional pre-show dinner, with cabaret seating, please call 250-247-9231 to make a reservation.
